Costa Rica: Export of Fruit Purees On the Rise

A stronger preference for natural products in markets such as the European and the American markets is the main reason behind the increase in exports of tropical fruit pastes or purees, which in 2016 totaled $81 million.

Nacion.com reports that “…Growth in the value of exports began to experience a very strong and constant rebound from 2014, according to data published in the yearbook published by the Foreign Trade Promoter.”

Karina López, Procomer’s Market Research Coordinator, explained that “… the main product shipped abroad by Costa Rica in this area is banana puree. She added that the behavior of sales is closely associated with the tendency of consumers in many countries, particularly Europeans, to prefer foods with natural contents and fruit derivatives without the addition of other components.”
